Most print dialog boxes have the option to export a document to PDF format. Users may want to do this when:

  • Needing to save a digital copy of a document without printing a hard copy.
  • Making a document that's viewable on all devices (PC, tablet, mobile, etc.).
  • Sharing a document that can be viewed but not edited.

The option to do this is usually in the list of available Destinations or Printers.

Google Chrome:

"Save as PDF" option listed under Destination.

Microsoft Edge:

There are "Save as PDF" and "Microsoft Print to PDF" options. Both options do the same thing.

Windows Print Dialog:

"Microsoft Print to PDF" option when selecting a printer.

Clicking Print or Save will prompt the user to save the file to their PC.
